Emerging Artist to Emerging Leader

Congratulations to Liliana Nuñez who is entering her Junior year in the PEAK Leaders in Training program for completing the Art Start Emerging Artist 2024 Spring Retrospective! Emerging Artists Residents spend eight months working on their personal, professional, and creative achievements in the eight months they have been with Art Start. We love seeing our young people making an impact in our community!

Art Start is an organization that has allowed me to grow as a professional artist. My work, as I view it, is a reflection of myself and my process of story-telling aids people to understand me more. These stories mostly express my love for media that contemplate humanity. And with my inspiration, I was offered this position of becoming an emerging artist, gaining networking skills and helped expand my portfolio. This internship I participated in ran from October 2023 through May 2024. During those 9 months, Art Start has helped me explore various art communities. Such as visits to local shows and exhibits in Milwaukee, a trip to Madison for the advocacy of funds for the arts in Wisconsin, and a four-day trip to New York City. To go more in-depth with the trips, traveling to Madison consisted of going to state  politicians and making them aware of an issue within the art community, which is low funding and government support. New York was filled with industry visits like going to Hearst Tower, the innovation kitchen for Shake Shack, Kurt Geiger, Dr. Jart and while there I was able to do sightseeing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Times Square. This was definitely a once in a lifetime experience and I can’t express how much I appreciate all the people who helped me through this experience. And now with the retrospective being just a memory, I will continue to utilize the skills I’ve learned in the art world and other professional settings, as it can help me grow even more than I have now.
